Anyksciai & The Hill of Crosses tour

Enjoy a full-day tour to The Hill of Crosses from Vilnius, a unique pilgrimage site with more than 200,000 crosses. Along the way, discover the town of Anyksciai which features the Ethnographic Museum, a treetop walking path and other attractions.

The first part of your day trip will take you to visit a place of silence and peace, for serenity and love, for respect and pity - the Hill of Crosses. A pilgrimage site about 12km north of Šiauliai in Northern Lithuania, It is believed to have been placed on the former Jurgaičiai – Domantai hill fortress, and is covered with more than 250,000 crosses, crucifixes, effigies, statues of saints and patriots. After that you go to Anyksciai area - visiting a unique technical, architectural and cultural monument a Narrow Gauge Railway station. The Narrow Gauge Railway began construction in Lithuania in the latter part of the 19th century is an important part of engineering history.

Afterwards you will visit an ethnographic horse museum with traditional farmstead and crafts - here you will learn more about the local cultures and Lithuanian farming traditions. You will also visit the "devil" stone, exclusive the Treetops Walking Path.

The tour starts at 8:00 in the morning with more than two hours drive to Siauliai area. There take an excursion to a unique ensemble of folk art with more than 200 000 various size and materials crosses standing on Jurgaiciai - Domantai mound. During your visit to The Hill of Crosses you will learn more about the legendary stories why the Hill appeared. After that move to Rundale palace. On the way brief stop at local restaurant, lunch time.

At about 13:00 visit Rundale palace, one of the most outstanding monuments of Baroque and Rococo architecture in Latvia, which sometimes is called as 'The Versailles of Latvia'. Last but not least go sightseeing at Bauska Castle, which is surrounded by a picturesque scenery and represents an example of military architecture (XV - XVII century). The castle consists of two parts: the fortress built especially for the use of firearms and residential castle fortified with bastions, protective walls and earthen ramparts. And finally, at about 16:00, transfer to Riga. Approximate arrival time is between 17:00 and 18:00.

Day tour around Vilnius city & Trakai Castle

Discover the main objects of Vilnius city and surroundings, such as: The Classic Town Hall, the bohemian Uzupis district (visiting the Angel of freedom, the Constitution), the Gothic St.Anne's Church and its famous Gothic ensemble, the magnificent Cathedral Square, old Vilnius University, and baroque masterpieces of the 17th century - Church of St. Peter and St. Paul.Then you will drive to the surrounding area and visit Pavilniai Regional Park and see its wonderful panoramic Puckoriai exposure, Authentic Exile Memorial, the crazy Tuputiskiai serpentine, and the literary Markuciai Manor, also known as A.Pushkin Museum. Afterwards, you will see a panoramic view of Vilnius from Subacius hill.

The second part of the tour is dedicated to the Trakai district. The first stop is Paneriai Memorial Park and Museum, which commemorates the brutal events that occurred during WWII. Then you will arrive to Trakai town, where you'll have free time for lunch at a local restaurant, where you can try traditional Karaites dishes like 'kibinai' (pastries filled with mutton and onion).

The excursion continues to Trakai Castle, which was a cradle of the Lithuanian statehood, an important military and political center, headquarters of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes, and the capital of Lithuania. At the end of the tour, you'll drive back to Vilnius and be dropped off at your hotel at 17:00.

Pilgrim tour from Vilnius

The Pilgrim tour from Vilnius cover the places which for long ages Lithuanians have cherished and considered holy. It is one of the oldest European Marian apparition sites at Siluva, Bernardine Monastery at Tytuvenai town and The Hill of Crosses.

The journey starts from the pick up at your centrally located hotel. Then drive to pilgrim shrine of Siluva town, where The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared four centuries ago.  There is visited the Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is one the finest examples of late Baroque architecture in Lithuania and famous by miraculous altar painting. Another sightseeing spot - The Chapel of Apparition marks the exact place of the apparition – its’ altar is constructed upon the same rock, according to tradition, the Marian apparition took place.

Trip is continued to Tytuvėnai’s Church of Our Lady of the Angels and Bernardine monastery complex, which is one of Lithuania’s largest and most important religious architecture ensembles from the 17th and 18th-centuries. The ensemble consists of a church, a courtyard with the Holy Steps Chapel, and the stone wall of a two-story monastery. The main altar of the church features a painting of the Mother of God and Child which is famed for special.

Last but definitely not the least object is The Hill of Crosses - the mysterious and an authentic monument to the suffering, endurance and love of Lithuanians for their freedom, both political and spiritual.

Drive back to Vilnius.
