I made an interesting trip to the hills with crosses. I received a lot of explanation. Great guide and driver.
Spent a day with our guide Andres, who is very passionate about Lithuanian history, which makes for a good guide. Made a stop to a forested park that commemorates battles Lithuanians have fought for independence. Each battle is honored by a cross made in Lithuanian design. Learned a lot about what price was paid for freedom and also the importance of the cross in Lithuanian culture. Then on to the Hill of Crosses, which is mind blowing! Stories behind the Hill, as well as just thinking of why all of the crosses are there are really something. Don’t think there’s anything like this anywhere else. From simple stick crosses to rosaries to very ornate crosses, the place is covered. On the way back, we stopped for lunch, which was paid at our own cost. Andres bought us all dessert, said his birthday was the next day. A nice gesture!! This is definitely a trip to be made when going to Lithuania
Sehr interessanter Ausflug! Sehr gute Betreuung! Die Fahrt war gut organisiert, mit einem sehr
informativen Zwischenstopp. Alles in allem PERFEKT!
We had a nice day trip to the other side of Lithuania (from Vilnius). The Hill of the crosses is a unique place which gives evidence of the resilience and faith of the Lituanian people for better future and independence. On the way back we stopped for lunch to taste some delicious local specialities. Recommend!
The guide is good and offered clear explanation of the spot. Also, the lunch was fine, though I have
experienced traditional food.
